As always, Sam, I appreciate your knowledge and the time you take to share it on behalf of a wide community. No doubt you could use the time for your needs on Run-A-Muk Acres. The Bible calls that “hiding your lamp under a bushel.” Thank you ever so much.
I see it as part of the same work I do at Runamuk--educating the public about pollinators and wildlife conservation is just as important as planting tomatoes. Actually, even when I was attending farmers' markets, a lot of my job was just educating people...about bees, about food, about what it takes to produce said food... People underestimate the power of community volunteers, I think.
Thank you for the kind and considerate comment, Gary!🙏
Thank you for this informative article. I love bees and grew up with my dad keeping them. I always wondered whether a bee hotel would help or not - and now I know! I will stick to keeping a meadow patch and avoiding pesticides.
Thank you; excellent article. I saw a few of these bee hotels in some parts of Toronto. They did not look right; large with a triagular roof. Now I know why I felt uncomfortable seeing them.
For me it's spiders, lol. I *totally* respect and appreciate them, but if they come into *my* space I just lose it.
The bee-hotels can be a good tool, but only if we have the commitment and fortitude to maintain them. Just like birdhouses, they need to be cleaned out every year.
What a fascinating read. I freak out at flying things generally although try never to hurt them. They cannot help that my biology is scared of them!
Was thinking of buying a new hotel for family presents but obviously reconsidering now. Good intentions unfortunately don’t match up with the reality of the outcomes in this case. Thankyou for the education.

People just don't realize....I hope this article spreads the message far and wide.🙏

What do you think of the two trendy bee homes: Flow Hives and Bottle hives?
